The Minnesota Orchestra Presents:
The Lahti Symphony Orchestra Recorded live in concert at Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis
Osmo Vänskä, conductor
The Lahti Symphony Orchestra began its recent US tour with a stunning performance at Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis. This is the 75-member group from a small city in southeastern Finland that Osmo Vänskä has led to international acclaim. Though he's now Music Director of the Minnesota Orchestra, Osmo Vänskä still holds the title of Chief Conductor in Lahti.
The Finnish orchestra had the Minneapolis audience on its feet cheering after nearly every piece, including the (count 'em!) three encores! Afterward, one of the players admitted that Minnesotans made the LSO "feel like rock stars!"
The next day, the LSO continued its tour to Michigan and Ohio, and then wrapped it all up at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City—but word is that their most memorable stop on the US tour was their first one in Minnesota.
