Yakov Kreizberg |
In the days before Schoenberg
The full-color beauties of late-German Romanticism come to life this week with the music of Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler, and Franz Schmidt. These three contemporaries brought tonal music to its zenith in the early 20th century—after which Schoenberg and his disciples had only one choice but to strike out on a new
atonal path. Conductor Yakov Kreizberg has been a frequent and warmly welcomed guest conductor of the Orchestra in recent seasons, and veteran concert-goers are eager to hear him conduct the long-overdue first performance at Orchestra Hall of Schmidt's Symphony No. 4.
