Alsop returns
This week, the Orchestra welcomes back conductor Marin Alsop. A favorite with summertime audiences at Orchestra Hall, Alsop was last in Minneapolis two summers ago conducting and cracking up the crowd with her off-handed (and slightly off-color) remarks from the podium.
She'll conduct a surprisingly sunny piece by the otherwise gloomy Christopher Rouse; Ravel's jazzy and heartbreaking Piano Concerto; and Tchaikovsky's glorious final symphony, Pathétique.
